Subject: Update to COVID-19 and Renting guidance for landlords and tenants
Thank you for your continued support and engagement during this period. I am writing to inform you that we published an update to our suite of COVID-19 and Renting Guidance today. The updated guidance is available at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-and-renting-guidance-for-landlords-tenants-and-local-authorities.
We have updated the guidance so that it now reflects the latest advice for clinically extremely vulnerable (shielding) individuals, advising that routine repairs and maintenance may take place in their homes from 1 August 2020. Our landlord and tenant guidance also includes additional advice on dealing with anti-social behaviour and the abandonment of properties, whilst encouraging landlords and tenants to consider mediation as a way to resolve disputes. We have also updated our local authority guidance with advice clarifying that local authorities may now resume routine inspections in people’s homes dependent on their individual priorities and enforcement policies.
We will continue to work with the Ministry of Justice and Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service to ensure that landlords and tenants are informed of how the possession action process works once the courts re-open on 24 August, including any changes which have been introduced to respond to the unique circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic, notably the new Civil Procedure Rules of which we provided details in an email on Monday.
