Our Chairman Bob Smytherman was invited and attended a roundtable recently hosted by Dame Judith Hackitt, who has been appointed to head the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety.
Dame Judith who is a former Chairman of the Health & Safety Executive will be leading the Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, set up in the light of system failures revealed in testing carried out after the Grenfell Tower disaster.
The Review will assess the effectiveness of current building and fire safety regulations, with a focus on multi-occupancy high rise residential buildings, and aims to develop a more robust regulatory system and to provide assurance to residents that these buildings are safe.
This Review is separate and distinct from the Statutory Inquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire disaster, led by Sir Martin Moore-Bick.
The review will be taking evidence from a wide spectrum of organisations involved in housing in England including the FPRA and of course from residents associations and RMC & RTM too.
Bob said “It’s critical to Dame Judith’s Review that she receives a comprehensive picture of current systems, and issues/concerns of those involved. I would very much encourage all our members to participate by responding to the call for evidence”.
